NUFC scoops Green Hospitality Award

149 stadium experience 0523 300x199 NUFC scoops Green Hospitality Award Exhibition NewsNUFC has won the Green Hospitality Award at the Stadium Experience Football Hospitality Awards 2013.

NUFC, in partnership with Sodexo Prestige which provides catering, hospitality and banqueting at St James’ Park, beat off competition from around the UK to take the prestigious honour at the annual awards, which were held at Reading’s Madejski Stadium.

The awards were set up to recognise and reward the highest standards in the industry. With categories for matchday and non-matchday hospitality across all leagues from League 2 to the Premiership, and Scotland’s Premier League, the awards are voted for by club directors, Salon Culinaire judges, industry peers, fans and the media.

Last year, NUFC declared itself to be the world’s first carbon positive football club after reducing emissions to a level where it now off-sets more than it emits.

Sodexo Prestige supports the club’s energy strategy and has also introduced a range of energy efficiency measures, including sourcing ingredients and produce locally to minimise food miles.

Meat, cheese and fish are all sourced from local suppliers with all baked goods made freshly on the premises.

In addition to the Green Hospitality Award, the club’s chefs took the bronze award in the Team of Chefs category while duty manager, 65-year-old Michael Moran, was also awarded bronze in the Special Achievement category for his years of dedication.

The Sodexo Prestige team also received the bronze medal in Matchday Experience Award – Overall Winner category for the quality of its matchday hospitality experience. The club was only one of four to be nominated in the Directors’ Choice category, selected by the directors’ of clubs across the premier league.

Frankie Angus, General Manager for Sodexo Prestige at NUFC, said: “This was a fantastic night for all of the team at St James’ Park.

“To be recognised in this way in competition with your peers is a real testimony to the hard work and commitment of everyone at the club.

“The fact that we took the top award in the green category and that individual members of our team were also honoured made it a fantastic event for everyone.”

Colour Sound Supplies Lighting & LED Screens to Vodafone Annual Conference

Colour Sound Vodafone Annual Conference 2013 300x225 Colour Sound Supplies Lighting & LED Screens to Vodafone Annual Conference Exhibition NewsLondon, UK lighting and visuals rental specialist Colour Sound Experiment supplied lighting and LED screens to Vodafone UK’s Annual Conference staged at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel at the National Exhibition Centre.

It was the first year that CSE has been involved in the event, where they were working for producers, The Red Lodge Agency.

Three main areas needed technical production – the conference sessions in the hotel’s Monarch Suite; a gala dinner and awards ceremony in the Palace Suite and then the after-show in the Kings Suite.

Colour Sound’s Project Manager Fletch created a production lighting and visuals design for all three rooms and led a team of 11 technicians and engineers who worked closely on site with Rhys Sion from Red Lodge. Great teamwork produced some spectacular results.

“The main challenges were the scale of the event and a short timescale – as is often the case,” explains Fletch. “Having a really strong crew on the case and doing as much detailed pre-planning as possible all helped things run smoothly on site”.

It was also the first event for CSE’s brand new BT6 high definition LED screen, 100 square metres of which had just been delivered to their west London HQ … and all 100 square metres of it went straight on to this job!

Monarch Suite

With over 1000 delegates a day over three days, it was important for visuals to have a big impact. For the conference section, Colour Sound supplied an upstage centre screen measuring 10.5 x 3.5 metres and two side screens each 4 x 2.5 metres wide, which ensured that everyone attending had a clear view of the stage action.

The stage was an ovular shape with tiered seating. There was no flying, so Colour Sound installed a substantial trussing ground support system which was utilised to rig all the technical elements.

Video content was a mix of material supplied by the client together with custom created footage produced by Toby Vogle for Colour Sound, all stored on Mac’s running PlaybackPro. A Barco Encore system was used for screen management, operated by Rob Scott.

The generic element of the lighting rig comprised 38 x ETC Source Four Parnels and ten ETC Source Four profiles.

The moving lights were 24 new Robe LEDWash 300s and 12 Robe MMX Spots – all part of a recent investment in Robe moving lights by the company worth £300,000 … and it was also their first outing. “They are brilliant,” declares Fletch.

There were also six Martin MAC 250 Entours on the floor for stings.

All lighting in the Monarch Suite was controlled via a Chamsys MG300 console, operated by Chris Steel and Sam Campbell.

Colour Sound also supplied all the PA rigging.  Over 50 points were involved in total, needed to distribute the relatively weighty rig across the ceiling area. The two front trusses were also ovular shaped to match the stage and set which was built by Joint Style.

Palace Suite

The scene and a very cool ambience was set for the gala dinner with a massive chandelier feature in the centre of the space.

This was constructed from 13 x 1 metre square mirrored boxes each with a metre square section of 20 mm LED inside, plus 700 Blackberry smartphones, all with their screens covered in mirrored material so they caught the video content and shimmered and reflected it as they spun around suspended off mini-steel wires.

The centrepiece concept was created by Rhys Sion, suspended on a 7 x 7 metre square box truss and looked awesome!

At the back of the stage, Colour Sound installed a 5 metre wide by 3 metre tall BT6 screen, and the whole room was atmospherically lit for the dinner.

Fletch’s design utilised a series of ground supported trusses with a mix of Source Four Parnels and Profiles, Robe LEDWash 600s and MMX Spots plus some GLP Impression Spot Ones – around 75 fixtures in total.

The MMXs were used highly effectively for texturing and throwing  funky break-up patterns around the room.

Lighting was controlled by Neil Marsh using an Avolites Pearl Expert, and video control and content was supplied by Safe & Sound.

After Party

Tinie Tempah headlined the after-show entertainment playing on a circular stage in the middle of the room, above which Colour Sound flew a 10 metre diameter spherical truss with a 48 inch mirror ball suspended in the centre – a sort of disco meets bling vibe!

In addition to this were eight Robe ColorSpot 170s, 14 x Robe ROBIN LEDWash 1200s, 12 x Robe ColorSpot 575s and six ETC Source Four profiles. David Kyle operated using an Avo Pearl Expert.

As well as supplying the PA rigging for SSE, Colour Sound also rigged all the décor that needed to be flown. The décor scheme was created by Becca Friedrich and included peacocks, chandeliers and large mirrors!

Fletch sums up, “We really enjoyed working with Rhys and his team from Red Lodge, and in transforming each of the different venues into functional and interesting visual spaces for the event, each of them diverse and different”.

In addition to those already mentioned, making up the Colour Sound crew were Lloyd Cornish ( PlaybackPro Operator), Jon Curtis (Lighting Tech), Zac Layton (Encore Operator), Jason Tuffin (Lighting Racks) and Tony McMann (LED Screen Tech). The riggers were James Hind and Neal Murray.

Jockey Club Venues non-raceday revenues up by 13%

Christmas party in Centaur 300x225 Jockey Club Venues non raceday revenues up by 13% Exhibition NewsJockey Club Venues, the conference and events arm of The Jockey Club, the largest commercial group in British horseracing, has released figures showing strong growth in non-raceday revenues for 2012, on the back of record financial results for 2012 revealed by The Jockey Club.

The Jockey Club’s £155m investment in state-of-the-art facilities over the last decade continues to pay dividends. The Group’s record financial results display an increased level of business performance for the Group in terms of conferences, live music, and other non-racing events. In 2012, increased non-racing revenues of £22.2m (up by 13% from £19.7m in 2011) accounted for 15% of The Jockey Club’s turnover and helped to drive a 3% growth in operating profits of £19.8m, up from £19.2m in 2011.

The Jockey Club Venues catering partnership with Compass Group UK & Ireland, Jockey Club Catering, also reported healthy growth, with a year-on-year increase in turnover of circa 6%. An increase in non-raceday business means it now represents nearly 20% of all Jockey Club Catering food and beverage sales.

Since its inception, the venture has invested more than £5m improving venues’ catering facilities to enhance customer experience at racecourses; most recently, this has included bar upgrades at Epsom Downs, the Sprint Cup bar renovation at Haydock Park, the Kauto Star bar project at Kempton Park, and the Equus restaurant renovation at Sandown Park Racecourse.

Susie Bradshaw, conference and events manager at Jockey Club Venues’ Cheltenham Racecourse, said: “It’s very important that we see development in our non-raceday business; we have great facilities at all our racecourses, so making the most of these for conferences and events is crucial. It’s great to see that investment and hard work has had a knock-on effect on our turnover, and we hope to see that continue throughout 2013.”

The Meetings Show UK, Event Director Steve Knight: “The response to our decision to launch The Meetings Show UK has been overwhelming.  Exhibitors and visitors are telling us time and again that a hosted buyer led show of this quality is needed in the UK and we are delighted to be fulfilling that need.  This ever expanding list of high quality exhibitors continues to provide motivation for buyers to attend the show in July – a fact that is reflected in the high number of registrations already completed.”

“This list represents just a small number of the organisations signed up to exhibit at The Meetings Show UK, whilst interest has been strong across the whole of the last year, confirmations have skyrocketed in the last month with almost the whole of the UK and many destinations throughout Europe and further afield now represented.  Main and stand sharing exhibitor numbers are increasing at a rapid rate and we expect to see even more confirmations over the next few weeks.”

David Owen, Head of Marketing at etc.venues, comments: “We like exhibitions – they give us the chance to get ‘up close and personal’ with active event bookers. But there are loads of them we could exhibit at and they are a serious commitment in terms of time and money so making the right choice is key.  We decided to do The Meetings Show UK due to the strength of the hosted buyer programme and because of the buzz they seem to have created in the market – in a year when some other shows may have lost their mojo a little.  Event bookers always like new venues – I get the feeling the same applies for new exhibitions.”

The Meetings Show UK is expected to attract 4,000 meeting professionals including 1,500 hosted buyers from across the UK and Europe. The high profile exhibitor list includes a wide range of leading UK and international destinations, venues and suppliers demonstrating the wide spread of support for the inaugural show. Visitor and Hosted Buyer applications are open at www.themeetingsshow.com

Beyond Luxury Media launches a game-changing trade show

We are Africa 300x91 Beyond Luxury Media launches a game changing trade show Exhibition NewsBeyond Luxury Media Ltd, the organiser of leading travel trade events PURE Life Experiences and LE Miami, announces the launch of a groundbreaking new travel trade show that will turbocharge business opportunities for Africa’s finest travel products.

The show will be called We Are Africa and will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, starting in May 2014. Announcing this new event Serge Dive, CEO of Beyond Luxury Media Ltd, said:

“Over many years our team has consistently broken the mould of traditional trade shows by creating superior events that redefine key industries in travel: luxury, experiential and contemporary. However, the Africa-based participants at these events represented just one section of our global exhibitors. It is therefore not surprising that once close working relationships were forged with Africa’s key travel trade players, we were continually asked to create an equally game-changing ‘All Africa’ travel show exclusively for product from this great continent. I have listened carefully to our partners across Africa and as a result am presenting We Are Africa, a totally new platform for buyers to do business with suppliers of African tourism.

This groundbreaking event will not be about luxury travel or experiential travel. It will be, quite simply, a platform to showcase remarkable brands and operators that constitute the very best of African tourism: brands that are worth talking about and above all have the potential to truly excite an internationally discerning clientele. Africa is uniquely rich in outstanding tourism product, which we will select by invitation only to attract buyers from all corners of the world.

Participating buyers and suppliers will be selected from the ‘best in breed’ across tourism markets so that We Are Africa encompasses all the ingredients needed to make a successful, modern travel trade show. Buyers from the world over will be hosted and offered a comprehensive menu of familiarisation trips across Africa. The event will include scheduled appointments, a conference, workshop sessions and an exciting new African awards ceremony to highlight the best in breed. Finally, no event organised by Beyond Luxury Media would be complete without our ‘special ingredient’ – fabulous parties for all buyers and exhibitors to network the night away!

We Are Africa will differentiate itself from other travel trade events in two respects. Firstly, our show will concentrate on bringing new markets and new business to Africa. Secondly, we will focus on assembling a unique community that is passionate about promoting the very best of Africa to the world, sharing sales and marketing ideas that will create as many networking and lead opportunities as possible.

In the spirit of all the shows that the Beyond Luxury Media team has built, We Are Africa will herald the creation of a genuine movement for those who want to stand out, be counted and celebrate and promote the unique beauty of Africa to the world. I believe that these values are epitomised by the name of our show: We Are Africa.”

The timing of the show in early May 2014 will give each buyer hosted by We Are Africa the opportunity to extend their stay and to go to Durban to meet other South African travel trade suppliers.
